Join us for A Toast to Bishop Michael Boulette! The gala will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, 6PM

at the Security Service Federal Credit Union Event Center located at 15000 I-10, San Antonio, TX 78249.

The life and ministry of Most Reverend Michael J. Boulette, D. Min. unfolds as a journey marked by deep faith and dedicated service to the Church. His story took a momentous turn when Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Michael Boulette as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio in 2017. On September 8, 2025, Pope Leo XIV accepted the resignation of Auxiliary Bishop Michael Boulette upon his reaching the age of 75, as required by canon law. Following his retirement, Bishop Boulette has returned to ministry at St. Peter Upon the Water in Ingram.

To celebrate Bishop Mike's wonderful career in service to the Catholic faithful, Assumption Seminary is hosting a semi-formal "Toast" dinner to honor him. As a distinguished alumnus and lifelong supporter of Assumption Seminary, Bishop Mike is celebrating two incredible milestones—his 50th ordination anniversary and his recent retirement. We hope you will join his friends and colleagues as we raise a glass to his remarkable legacy and contributions.

You can register to attend the Toast for Bishop Mike and sign up to be an event sponsor by clicking the blue box below. We look forward to seeing everyone at this special evening!

Assumption Seminary Celebrates the Ordination of Two New Deacons

Congratulations to Deacon Luis Angeles (pictured to the right in the photo above), an Assumption Seminarian, and Deacon Larry Curtis from the Diocese of San Bernardino were ordained transitional deacons at the end of last year. Men in priesthood formation are first ordained deacons as a transitional step to becoming a priest. The Church teaches that deacons are ordained to be a sacramental sign to the Church and to the world of Christ the Servant. A deacon may baptize people, witness and bless marriages, and preside at funeral liturgies, but cannot celebrate Mass, nor can he administer the sacrament of reconciliation or anointing of the sick.

On Saturday, November 22 at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church in Flagstaff, Arizona, Nathan Blanchard from the Diocese of Phoenix, was ordained a transitional deacon. Nathan's ordination Mass was concelebrated by Bishop John Dolan and more than a dozen priests from the Diocese of Phoenix as well as Bishop Gary Janak, JCL, Assumption Seminary Rector. Nathan completed his theological studies at Assumption Seminary this year. Also in attendance were Blanchard’s parents, Dcn. Greg and Christina Blanchard, and his five siblings.
