"Jesus, as you know, calls you, before all else, to have an experience of friendship with him and with your other companions on the journey (cf. Mk 3:13). An experience that will continue to grow, also after ordination, and affect every part of your life. Indeed, nothing of your personal uniqueness should be put aside; rather, everything should be taken up and transformed, like the grain of wheat in the Gospel. The goal is to become a joyful man and a joyful priest, a “bridge”, not an obstacle for those who come to you in order to come to Christ. He must increase and we must decrease. In that way, we can be shepherds after his own Heart."

Meet Assumption Seminary Alumnus Fr. Ed Gonzales
Over my years of formation at Assumption Seminary, I grew in learning to listen and engage others with greater patience and understanding, deepening my life with God and becoming more attentive to the needs of the community.
Father Ed Gonzales, Vocation Director for San Antonio

Hi, I am Fr. Ed Gonzales, and I began formation at Assumption Seminary in 2014. I was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Antonio in 2021 and I enjoy fulfilling roles with the Archdiocese and parish life. Over my years of formation at Assumption, I grew in many connected ways: learning to listen and engage others with greater patience and understanding, deepening my life with God, stretching my mind, and becoming more attentive to the needs of the community. Each part of my growth has shaped who I am as a priest today. I am dedicated to glorifying God and serving his people, and as the Vocation Director for San Antonio, I am committed to helping young people listen to God’s activity in their lives and develop a discerning heart.
